Jude Kirton-Darling and Paul Brannen, Labour Members of the European Parliament for the North East have called for the region to have a strong voice in future negotiations for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union. Trade, Jobs and Investment; whether access to the Single Market is important for the North East,
Funding; the question of European regional and social funding,
Rights; the protection of workers’ rights and possibly even their enhancement, measures that are within the responsibility of the UK Government already such as stopping the undercutting of UK workers by EU or other labour,
Security; the European arrest warrant,
Environment; protection of environmental standards,
Energy; the potential future of the North Sea Grid plan,
Consumer; protections for ordinary people by considering issues such as the potential impact of an exit on pensions and food prices,
Agriculture and Fisheries; the impact on fishing in the region and the impact of leaving the Common Agricultural Policy,
Immigration; the status of North East residents in the EU and EU residents in the North East,
Travel; the effects of an exit on travel within the EU,
Constitutional Questions; the potential constitutional ramifications for the UK, including the status of the House of Lords, North East devolution and the Scottish and Northern Irish position on remaining within the EU.
Education; the impact on studying abroad and attracting students to the region.
Influence; the representation of North East interests within the UK, the EU and beyond.
