Strasbourg, students & solid hard work - here's the week's update:
Monday was spent in trains... Delayed trains... For hours! Eventually when I got to Strasbourg it was straight into votes in the trade committee on trade with the Ukraine & Commissioner hearings on energy policy.
Tuesday I started early catching up with UKREP, planned a conference on human rights in the Great Lakes with Cecile Kyenge, protested to #DeliverNow, improved maternity rights, ate Czech cakes (yum!), chatted to Beamish & the banking sector (different times!)
Wednesday saw another set of firsts as I chaired a meeting with Shadow Rapporteurs in my Novel Foods opinion, was elected co-chair of EuroLAT social affairs working group & voted on the new Commission! We also had a discussion with the U.S. Ambassador on TTIP.
Thursday started with a chat about investment in first Venezuela, moved on to Panama & to Ecuador - I barely left the office! I also spoke out on the increasing numbers of acid attacks against women in Iran. It was a relief to head home.
Friday I had a great visit to Northumbria University, a briefing from Durham County Council, met EAPPI representatives & spoke in Middlesbrough to NECFARR... Phew! What a week!
Saturday I spoke to the Northern TUC's regional council.
