Jude's weekly round up

A week of 2 halves! Here's your weekly report:

Bank Holiday Monday - dominated by the revelations of #TTIPLeaks. Here's my reaction & an update on TTIP in general.

Tuesday - started early in a breakfast briefing on the important Keep Me Posted campaign (a campaign to ensure every consumer’s right to choose, without disadvantage, how they are contacted by banks and other financial service companies, utility companies, media companies and other service providers http://www.keepmeposteduk.com). Ran from their to a regular TTIP briefing with the chief negotiator following the 13th round of negotiations in New York last week. Very timely considering #TTIPLeaks. On to speak at a hearing on the crisis in the steel industry at the European Economic & Social Committee with speakers from the Commission. Welcomed a delegation of young trade union leaders from across Europe to the European Parliament - great discussion & visit. Did an academic interview about how Labour works in EP. Met development campaigners from 11.11.11 & ACT Alliance. EPLP discussion about Labour's EU Referendum campaign to Remain IN. Ate with left caucasus.

Wednesday - Socialist group meeting included a discussion with EU Ombudsman Emily O'Reilly. I asked her about transparency in trade negotiations. Met Greenpeace's trade representatives to discuss the EU-Canada deal CETA & TTIP. Team meeting. Academic interview on role trade unions in trade policy. Ran for train home.

Thursday - polling day - started early in Middlesbrough for Barry Coppinger PCC & new local Councillor Davud Branson. Up to Stanley for Ron Hogg PCC. Over to Low Fell for Labour candidate Ken Parkin. On to the office for a cuppa before heading to Dinnington to campaign with Vera Baird PCC & local candidate Jacqui Foster. Shattered but to make it more entertaining we set some challenges (Anneke Rice eat your heart out ;-)): part 1 & part 2

Friday - would have been my Mum's 69th birthday so mainly a family day plus a meeting on Labour North IN campaign.

Saturday - great to discuss why we are Better Off In in Tanfield. Caught first half of Boro match in the car (love BBC Tees team!). Second half in the pub with all the K-Ds. Great result. Rest the day spent celebrating!

Tomorrow - it's back to Strasbourg for plenary debates & votes.

Do you think the North East needs its own voice in the EU exit negotiations?
