Jude speaks on Climate Change Deal

06 October 2016

Jude kirton-Darling MEP has today made a speech in Parliament about the need to press on with dealing with the issue of Climate Change following the ratification of the Paris Climate change deal.

A transcript of her speech is below and yopu can watch the video at the bottom of the page

Jude's Speech:

Thank you President,

This week we have shown that the European Union can act quickly and decisively on climate change.

By ratifying the Paris Agreement in less than a year from its negotiation, we have shown that we can unite and take assertive action.

With the next round of global climate talks rapidly approaching, this is no time to sit on our laurels. The world can't wait and neither should we.

We must put in place policies that limit the rise in global average temperature to no more than 1.5°C, while allowing for a ‘Just Transition’, which provides working people and their communities with high quality jobs and produces sustainable growth for our economies.

With today’s resolution, which I wholeheartedly support, we have sent out a clear message to the negotiators at the upcoming talks.

All economic sectors, all industries and all peoples have their role to play.

There can be no more excuses.

Thank you.

Do you think the North East needs its own voice in the EU exit negotiations?
