My time as the Labour MEP for the North East comes to an end on Friday night. It has been a rollercoaster with many ups and downs and as I leave office, I do so sending you all the very best wishes for a prosperous future. I will continue to work on promoting the interests of the North East region, where it has been the honour of my life to represent the area I grew up in and have started a family in.
Representing the North East in the European Parliament has been an amazing political and intellectual journey where I have read countless (and complex) policy briefings, held meetings with a range of stakeholders, worked with senior politicians and lobbying groups and I have contributed to a great number of meetings both in public parliamentary meetings and behind the scenes. I have campaigned throughout the whole of the North East, listening to the concerns and views of residents and I have noted the various local issues of importance across the region.
In order to share my insights and reflections I have written a 16-page booklet that gives my views on "Getting the Best for the North East" as we enter the next chapter of the Brexit process. In the booklet you will read short articles designed to provoke thought and debate with my insights on:
Trade Beyond Brexit
Our post-Brexit regional voice and investment
Protecting rights at work and for all
Keeping us safe
Protecting our environment
