Brussels Open Days – the Committee of the Regions are responsible for hosting the European Week Of Regions and Cities, an annual event known as the Brussels Open Days which attract over 5000 participants in regional economic development from across the world.
The event takes place in October each year and the North East has been selected as an official partner (via One North East) several times, promoting a range of activity ranging from support to innovation to new and renewable energy activity in the region.
The Brussels Open Days comprise a programme of 100+ seminars and workshops at which experts and speakers from the regions of Europe share best practice. It is a good opportunity to gather intelligence as well as raise the profile of organisations across the North East, how they are utilising EU funding programmes and some of the innovative work being delivered across the region. If selected to be an official partner, local events are also expected to be delivered to support and raise awareness of participation in the Brussels event.
The 2016 Open Days will be the fourteenth annual event.
RegioStars Competition – is an annual competition the EC runs to highlight and identify good practice being delivered in regional development by projects receiving EU funding, which could be attractive and inspiring to other regions.
One North East was previously selected as a finalist twice – in 2009 for recognition of the Proof of Concept Fund delivered by NStar Finance, and in 2011 for the NEPA and ERIP projects.
This competition is open to any regional partner if they believe they have delivered projects which fit well with the particular thematic focus of the annual competition. It is an excellent way to raise the profile of projects within the region receiving EU funding and supporting EU policy agendas. Finalists are invited to an awards ceremony which is held during the Open Days.
Smart, sustainable and inclusive growth were the focus of the 2015 competition.
