The Leader of the Labour Party’s campaign to stay in Europe, Alan Johnson, has suggested that the EU brings benefits to the all parts of the UK, improving economic and national security, and helping to secure rights for all members of society, and these benefits would be put at risk if Britain were to vote to leave Europe.
Johnson, the Labour MP for Hull West and Hessle, made the comments at the Labour In For Britain’s launch. Johnson said: “There is no progressive case for leaving the European Union.
"Who will gain from our departure? Certainly not British workers or businesses or consumers, certainly not our universities or our scientists, all of whom will be damaged and diminished, along with our environment and our security."
Johnson continued: “Labour will defend the rights of working people by campaigning to keep Britain in Europe.”
Johnson’s remarks come after a letter published in the Times, where six former Home Secretaries warned that Britain’s national security would be put at risk if Britain were the exit the EU.
